Kitty walked down the street with a sigh. Yep, just another day in the life of Kitty Laremore.  She walked into the public library like always, smiling to the librarian. The young man sighed. Normally, when you think librarian, you think old man or woman, but THIS librarian, Mike, was a young man. He was twenty seven years old, had shaggy brunette hair, blue eyes, and had gages in his ears. He defied all definitions of librarian. “Hey Kit, how was your day?” he asked with a smile.

“Same shit, Different day. You know?” she responded, turning to face him. Mike sighed.

“When are you going to get some good friends and stop coming here every day?” Kitty shot him a glare. “Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing you, but you should be outside, hanging out with other fifteen year olds. You get what I mean?” Mike said hurriedly, bringing his hands up in a defensive gesture.

Kitty sighed. She knew he was right, but she wanted to find friends who like her for who she is. “Maybe when I even attempt to act normal.” she whispered as she walked away. Kitty knew her routine, chose a random isle, look at all the books, and pull out the interesting ones. Today was no different. She was perusing the isle for a good book when an old, browning, leather bound book caught her eye. She picked it up off of the shelf and sat down at one of the tables to read it.

Opening this new book of hers, she automatically new something was different. Kitty raised an inquisitive eyebrow as she read the first line out loud. “auffrischen dasjenige was geriet in Gefangenschaft...? What’s THAT supposed to mean?”

“It means ‘Bring back that which was taken captive’ in German. Not that I’d expect YOU to know that.” came a voice from the seat right in front of her.

“HOLY SHIT! Don’t scare me like that!... Wait. How do you know that? You’re obviously in high school and none of the high schools around here teach German.” Kitty demanded. A look of pure shock and joy appeared on the boy’s face.

“Wait. You can SEE me? HEAR me? Oh my god!” the boy gasps.

“What do you mean, see and hear you, of course I can. You’re a person, not some sort of mutant freak with the power of invisibility.” Kitty shot back with a roll of her eyes.

“No, I’m not human. At least, not any more. My soul was trapped in that book..... Nine years ago... No one has been able to see me since.” He explained softly, a look of pain came to the boy’s face. “It happened while I was reading it. I never even got to say ‘I’m sorry’ or ‘goodbye’ to my mom before she came to bring me home for dinner and found my body.”

Kitty’s heart went out to the boy. “Well, what is your name? Maybe we can find your mother and tell her what happened.” She suggested. His eyes brightened considerably.

“My name’s Miki Schultz! And would you really do that for me?” Miki rushed. A small smile now adorned Kitty’s expressions. They both got up from the table and walking out of the library, missing the weird look the librarian was giving her. To him, it looked as if she were talking to herself.

“Yeah, sure I would! I’m not so horrible as to say ‘no’ to you!” she chuckled.

Getting on her computer, she looked up ‘Miki Schultz’ and was surprised by the results she got. She looked at Miki to make sure he wasn’t paying attention to what she was doing, she read the article.

BOY FOUND DEAD IN LOCAL LIBRARY

The body of fifteen year old Miki Shultz was found in, ironically, the MYSTERY section of the Chandler Public Library at about Six o’ clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, August twenty fifth.
His birthday. Police on scene told us that suicide was ruled out. Since then, the city has seen fit to release some of the information about his death. The curious thing about this information is that they have no idea how he died. Miki was a perfectly healthy teenage boy with no history of drug or alcohol abuse. Let’s all hope this horrible tragedy is solved soon.

After this small clipping of the news paper, there was a picture of miki, a big grin plastered on his face, kneeling down with two identical little girls, and a woman who seemed familiar to her.

She read the description of the photo. It read ‘Miki (age 14), his twin little sisters (age 7), Michel and Mikhail, and his mother (age 38), Susan Shultz. All of a sudden, it clicked. She knew where she had seen the woman, now dubbed Susan, and the twin little girls! They were the family that her family had bought their house from! Perhaps, Kitty thought, that was why Miki was looking around like he already knew this place. “Miki? Where did you live?” Kitty asked a little shakily.

“... Here...... This was my room...” Miki responded sadly.
